Hyraceum (Procavia Capensis Excret), better known as “African stone,” is an extremely rare infusion extracted from the fossilized excrement of the Cape hyrax. These small mammals, which live in communities in southern Africa, have a habit of always defecating in the same place. Hello, smell! So why find it in an infusion, the less knowledgeable might ask? To satisfy the curious, but not only that. In perfumery, foul and animal odors play an essential role in the design of perfumes. Quite simply because they are formidable fixatives, and therefore enhance the other fragrances that make up your perfumes. Apart from ambergris, these materials have almost disappeared in their natural form, primarily for the sake of animal welfare, and that’s a good thing! This is particularly because obtaining them required exciting, torturing, or even killing the animals. However, we offer Hyraceum at Le Sourceur precisely because this material does not disturb the animal in its natural habitat. We simply collect the excrement and then infuse it for 6 to 9 months in 95% perfume alcohol. The result is explosive, with smoky, earthy and, of course, fecal notes. So be careful with your nostrils when trying this animal fragrance, which is, to say the least, reserved for the curious or perhaps the adventurous!

OLFACTORY DESCRIPTION
Indescribably musky, Hyraceum, also known as African Stone, offers a rich and complex animal note. Earthy, smoky, and above all leathery like tobacco, it also delivers facets of black olive and spreads lasciviously over a mineral and woody base. Used with caution, it brings a terribly sensual character to so-called “oriental” compositions and musky accords.

STORAGE
Infusions are sensitive to UV radiation and the gradual evaporation of their constituents. It is therefore essential to store them in a dark glass or aluminum bottle with a tight-fitting lid at a temperature between 5°C and 40°C.
