Tolu balsam (Myroxylon balsamum) ultrasonic extract is a treasure straight from South America, particularly the lush forests of Colombia. Often confused with Peru balsam, it is extracted from the living trunks of the Myroxylon balsamum var. toluiferum tree. Initially, it takes the form of a brownish, sticky, semi-fluid mass, which gradually hardens on contact with air to become solid and brittle. When heated, it becomes malleable again, revealing its full aromatic richness. Tolu balsam is particularly prized in perfumery for its warm, sweet and slightly spicy scent.
